Apple, Cisco tussle over iPhone name

Cisco’s Linksys division last month launched a family of “iPhone” devices. The Linksys phones include WiFi antennas, allowing users to make VOIP calls using their home wireless networks and services such as Skype or Yahoo Messenger.

According to a statement from Cisco on Tuesday, Apple has repeatedly sought permission from the networking company to use the iPhone moniker, and the two companies have recently been engaged in “extensive” negotiations over the name. Cisco said it expected Apple to quickly sign an agreement the company sent over late Monday to use the name, but as of press time, Apple still hadn’t signed.
