On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund.

Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement. In 2008, millions of people, businesses, governments and civic organizations in nearly 200 cities around the globe will turn out for Earth Hour. More than 100 cities across North America will participate, including the US flagships–Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco and Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. View cities involved around the world.

We invite everyone throughout North America and around the world to turn off the lights for an hour starting at 8 p.m. (your own local time)–whether at home or at work, with friends and family or solo, in a big city or a small town.

What will you do when the lights are off? We have lots of ideas.

Join people all around the world in showing that you care about our planet and want to play a part in helping to fight climate change. Don’t forget to sign up and let us know you want to join Earth Hour.

One hour, America. Earth Hour. Turn out for Earth !

Earth Hour

Earth Hour website

Google users in the United States will notice today that we “turned the lights out” on the Google.com homepage as a gesture to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour. As to why we don’t do this permanently – it saves no energy; modern displays use the same amount of power regardless of what they display. However, you can do something to reduce the energy consumption of your home PC by joining the Climate Savers Computing Initiative.

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation.

Given our company’s commitment to environmental awareness and energy efficiency, we strongly support the Earth Hour campaign, and have darkened our homepage today to help spread awareness of what we hope will be a highly successful global event.

Why did Google choose this specific organization?
We believe in doing our part to help combat climate change, and found the Earth Hour initiative to be a timely, important event. Further, we think the “lights out” idea’s individual-centered nature is something that millions of people worldwide can participate in. In short, we really like it. So we did something about it.

How can I get Google to do something similar for my organization or project?
We welcome your ideas on how we can become more socially and environmentally responsible. Although we can’t guarantee either a placement on the Google homepage or even a response to every query, we do read every email we receive and welcome your ideas of organizations that you believe we should feature. If you’d like to submit a proposal, please send it to us at proposals@google.com.

Love is a miracle, sweet as can be,
That will always remain a complete mystery.

For though it is something that’s centuries old,
It cannot be purchased for silver or gold.

But instead must be given of one’s own free will,
And received with no promises it must fulfil.

And once it’s exchanged in this time-honoured way,
There’s nothing that love cannot manage to say.

No problems too great and no problems too small,
For love, like a miracle, conquers them all.

And leaves in their place such a feeling of peace,
That joy, just like love, cannot help but increase!

India’s Tata Motors is buying the British-based luxury car marques Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford for 1.46 billion euros in cash. Tata Motors, is India’s top bus and lorry manufacturer and its third-largest car maker. It has been in talks with Ford since the start of this year.

Group Chairman Ratan Tata said: “We have enormous respect for the two brands and will endeavour to preserve and build on their heritage and competitiveness, keeping their identities intact.” And union leader Des Quinn said the workers are happy: “We believe it means stability and hopefully good news looking forward. We’ve had written assurances there will be no plant closures, no job losses, that their pay, their conditions, their pensions will be guaranteed, so hopefully good news and stability going forward, very much business as normal.”

The two companies employ a total of 19,000 people at five plants in central and north west England. This is not the Tata group’s first foray into the UK, last year it bought the Anglo-Dutch steelmaker Corus for 8.25 billion euros.

Analysts have expressed concerns about how Tata will fund this deal given the current credit crunch, and how Jaguar and Land Rover will fit into its stable of vehicles, including the Nano, the world’s cheapest car.

Kya hua tera waadaWoh kasam, woh iraada
Bhoolega dil jis din tumhe
Woh din zindagi ka aakhri din hoga
Kya hua tera waadaWoh kasam, woh iraada-
Yaad hai mujhko, tune kaha thaTumse nahin roothenge
kabhiDil ki tarah se haath mile hainKaise bhala chhootenge kabhiTeri baahon mein beeti har shyaam
Bewafa yeh bhi kya yaad nahin
Kya hua tera waadaWoh kasam, woh iraadaBhoolega dil jis din tumheWoh din zindagi ka aakhri din hoga
Kya hua tera waadaWoh kasam, woh iraadaOh kehne waale mujhko farebiKaun farebi hai yeh bata
Kya hua tera waadaWoh kasam woh irada
