Be Good & Do Good!

Month: April 2007 (page 1 of 2)

Its friendship…….

When a person calls u by a stupid name and never by ur own name…..
When they always get angry, whenever u tell them that u r busy and cant reply…
When they tell u everything about themselves even if its embarassing…
When they come to c u, whenever they get a chance….
When u argue with each other on stupid things and then end up laughing….
Celebrate with ur friends

Power saving tips

Ack:- TATA Power

1. Shift usage away from the 10 am — 8 pm peak time and avoid adding to the load.

2. Switch on AC an hour after starting work and switch off an hour before the day ends.

3. Run all ACs at 24 degrees Celsius.

One of the biggest drains on power supply is AC’s set at ‘chilling’ temperatures rather than a ‘comfortable’ level. Ensuring that AC’s operate at a ‘comfortable’ 24 degrees Celsius at all times will go a long way. The ACs use 3 to 5 percent less energy for each degree less when set at levels above 22 degrees. Set the thermostat of your AC at 24 degrees Celsius to provide comfort at the least cost.

4. Switch off from the plug switch.

We can save an unbelievable 5% of Mumbai’s power if we switch off from plug points! For example, mobile chargers left on when not in use. Switching them off will save considerable amount of power. So, let’s always switch off our ACs, TVs, DVDs, mobile chargers, etc from the plug point.

5. Set computers to ‘sleep’ and ‘hibernate’ modes when not in use

The “sleep mode” feature on your computer enables it to use less power during periods of inactivity. Also configure your computer to “hibernate” automatically after 30 minutes or so of inactivity. The “hibernate mode” turns the computer off in a way that doesn’t require you to reload everything when you switch it back on. It saves energy and is more time-efficient than shutting down and restarting your computer from scratch.

6. Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) in your homes and premises to save up to 75% of electricity.

Height of Optimism

Soldier: “Sir, we are surrounded by the enemies”
SARDAR Major: “Excellent ! We can now attack in any direction” !.

What is the height of mixed emotions???
when ur mother in law falls from 7th floor on ur mercedes!!!!

Dad : Son, what do you want for your birthday?
Son : Not much dad, just a radio with a sports car around it.

bhikari – sahab ek rupiya de do.
Sahab – tumhe sharam nahi aati road par khade hokar bhikh mangte.
Bhikari – abe tere ek rupiye ke liye office kholu kya?

What did the gangster’s son tell his dad when he failed his examination?
Dad they questioned me for 3 hours but I never told them anything.”

Gujarati Poem on Happiness

Where are my docs?

Do you sometimes work on several documents? It can be frustrating accessing them everytime from a maze of folders! Wish you could open any work-in-progress document in a couple of clicks?  Well, the Work menu in Microsoft Word grants this wish!

The Work menu keeps a list of Word documents you wish to access readily. It’s like the ‘Favourites’ menu in your internet browser.  All you need to do is to get this Work menu onto your Word menu bar.

Here’s how to do it:

  • On the Tools menu, click Customize, and then click the Commands tab.
  • In the Categories box, click Built-in Menus.
  • In the Commands box, click Work and drag it to the menu bar. The Work menu gets added to the menu bar.

You can now add any open Word document to the Work menu list. Here’s more about your Work menu:

  • To add your current document to the  Work menu,  on the Work menu, click Add to Work Menu.
  • To open a document on the Work menu,  on the Work menu, click the document you want to open.
  • To remove a document from the Work menu:
    • Press CTRL+ALT+ — (dash key). Your cursor will change to a large, bold underscore.
    • On the Work menu, click the document you want to remove.

No more fretting over where you last saved a document, or a long series of clicks to fetch it. Try out the Work menu.  It could become your ‘favourite’!

Inquiry or Enquiry?

Ever wondered whether to enquire or inquire? Or, did you think they are interchangeable?

Both words originate from the same Latin word ‘inquirere’, which means ‘to search out or investigate’. Perhaps, this is why some people think they are alternative spellings of the same word.

Besides the small difference in the initial letter in their spellings, the usage has traditionally differed between these words. Enquire is generally used when ‘asking for information.’ Inquire has meant ‘a formal investigation.

In formal writing such as reports, inquire is used more than enquire when referring to formal or systematic investigation.

Here’s more on the usage of these words.

Use…

To…

Example

Enquire Ask for information, informally

The client enquired about the progress of the project.

New associates enquired about the innovative software tools developed by the company.

Inquire Make a formal investigation

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) held an out-of-turn inquiry into the finances of the department.

The module leader inquired about the algorithm used by the developer team for the search functionality in Knowmax.

Note: The differentiation between ‘Enquire’ (and enquiry) and ‘Inquire’ (and inquiry) is more evident in British English. In US English, ‘Inquire’ is often used interchangeably (for informal asking and formal investigation.)

Remember the thumb rule—enquire for asking informally, and inquire when investigating formally.

Childhood Poems

Machhali Jal ki Rani hai
Jeewan uska paani hai
hath lagao darr jayegi
bahar nikalo mar jayegi…

Posham pa bhai posham pa
sau(100) rupay ki ghadi churayi
ab to jail mein jana padega
jail ki roti khana padega
jail ka pani peena padega
thayi thuiya thush
madari baba fushhhhhh….

Jhooth bolna paap hai
nadi kinare saanp hai
kali mai aayegi
tumko utha le jayegi…

CONFIDENCE, TRUST & HOPE

Ack:- Nikita Shah

CONFIDENCE :
Once all village people decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer all people gathered and only one boy came with an umbrella…. that’s Confidence……..

TRUST :
Trust should be like the feeling of a one year old baby when you throw him in the air, he laughs…..because he knows you will catch him…….. that’s Trust…………

HOPE :
Every night we go to bed, we have no assurance to get up alive in the next morning but still we have plans for the coming day……….that’s Hope……….

Keep CONFIDENCE! TRUST Others! Never Lose HOPE!
