{"id":326,"date":"2006-07-10T12:41:02","date_gmt":"2006-07-10T07:11:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chiragmehta.info\/chirag\/2006\/07\/10\/nasa-picks-indian-american\/"},"modified":"2006-07-10T12:41:02","modified_gmt":"2006-07-10T07:11:02","slug":"nasa-picks-indian-american","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chiragmehta.info\/chirag\/2006\/07\/10\/nasa-picks-indian-american\/","title":{"rendered":"NASA picks Indian-American"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) <\/strong>has chosen an Indian-American astronaut <strong>Sunita Williams<\/strong>, nee Pandya, as part of the 14th International Space Station (ISS) crew. <\/p>\n<p>The mission will also have two other NASA astronauts &#8211;<strong> Michael Lopez-Alegria and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin <\/strong>&#8211; besides Sunita, as part of the replacement crew for the six-month-long <strong>ISS Expedition<\/strong> to be carried out September\/October this year. Sunita will serve as a flight engineer for the mission, according to a NASA release. <\/p>\n<p>Michael Lopez-Alegria will be the commander and the station science officer while Mikhail Tyurin will be the flight engineer and Soyuz commander. <\/p>\n<p>Sunita is currently assigned to the <strong>Expedition-14 crew.<\/strong> She will join Expedition-14 in progress, to serve as a flight engineer, after travelling to the ISS with the crew aboard <strong>STS-116<\/strong>.
