They did it again, the scoundrels.<\/strong> Now it is up to us to roar back at them, you won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be able to cow us down, not the last time, not this time. This city took terror in its stride in 1993,<\/strong> we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll do it again. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s why it is of the utmost importance for us to return as quickly as possible to normal life while making sure that no stupid mischief-maker uses this opportunity to stir up ethnic or communal passions. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t mess with us \u00e2\u20ac\u201d that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the strongest message we can send to the terrorists.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oh, yes, they are terrorists. We don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know exactly which fanatic cult they belong to, but only brutes,<\/strong> without any shred of simple humanity<\/strong>, would plan and execute a deed that would kill so many innocent people, people heading back home at rush hour to their loved ones, people with simple dreams and aspirations.<\/p>\n

These bombings clearly wanted to strike at the heart of India\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s commercial capital, the engine of India\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s rapid growth that is drawing admiration all over the world. Well, let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s resolve not to let them get their way. In 1993, when large-scale terrorism first came to the city with serial bomb blasts, the city was back on its feet within 24 hours. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll do it again. We don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t panic, we just get back to work.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That said, we must ask whether the nation\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s intelligence agencies were alert enough to this latest outrage. Preliminary reports say they were aware something big was going to happen <\/strong>but even the Union home minister has acknowledged they had no clue where or what or how it was going to strike<\/strong>. Was it in revenge for some imagined locally situated grievance? Or was it part of the global terrorist epidemic that has hit so many nations and has tried to harm this one repeatedly?<\/p>\n

We must not, however, fall in the trap of looking for easy scapegoats. This is a time for solidarity not hatred. Our hearts reach out to those who have died or suffered in this ghastly tragedy. Let us not demean them in any way.<\/strong><\/p>\n
