While Reliance\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 100% subsidiary <strong>Flag <\/strong>Telecom plans to build a <strong>cable system linking<\/strong> South Africa to <strong>Madagascar and Mauritius <\/strong>to expand its global network, Tatas-owned <strong>VSNL <\/strong>is in talks with the <strong>EASSy <\/strong>cable consortium, <strong>Africa\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <\/strong>upcoming cable system, to offer global connectivity on its network.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, RCL chairman <strong>Anil Ambani<\/strong> had announced that <strong>Flag <\/strong>would invest $1.5 billion to lay an additional <strong>50,000 km<\/strong> of <strong>undersea <\/strong>optic fibre capable of carrying <strong>voice, video and data<\/strong>, which would give the an additional capacity of <strong><em>1.28 terabytes per second<\/em><\/strong>.
