{"id":584,"date":"2007-01-23T10:07:59","date_gmt":"2007-01-23T04:37:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chiragmehta.info\/chirag\/2007\/01\/23\/telecom-regulator-may-get-more-powers\/"},"modified":"2007-01-23T10:07:59","modified_gmt":"2007-01-23T04:37:59","slug":"telecom-regulator-may-get-more-powers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chiragmehta.info\/chirag\/2007\/01\/23\/telecom-regulator-may-get-more-powers\/","title":{"rendered":"Telecom regulator may get more powers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a bid to make the consumer <strong>complaint redressal mechanism more effective<\/strong>, the Communications and IT Minister, <strong>Mr Dayanidhi Maran<\/strong>, will be meeting senior officials from Department of Telecom and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (<strong>TRAI<\/strong>) to discuss <strong>giving more powers<\/strong> to the telecom regulator.<\/p>\n<p>TRAI has proposed a slew of measures including i<strong>ncreasing the tenure of the Chairperson<\/strong> and other Board members to <strong>five <\/strong>years from the present term of <strong>three <\/strong>years and powers to impose punitive measures against operators who violate quality of service norms. TRAI has sent a list of its demands to the Ministry of Communications. Senior officials in DoT said preliminary discussions had taken place between <strong>Mr D.S.
