Ever wondered whether to enquire<\/strong> or inquire<\/strong>? Or, did you think they are interchangeable?<\/p>\n

Both words originate from the same Latin<\/strong> word \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcinquirere\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/strong>, which means \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcto search out or investigate\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/strong>. Perhaps, this is why some people think they are alternative spellings of the same word.<\/p>\n

Besides the small difference in the initial letter in their spellings, the usage has traditionally differed between these words. Enquire<\/strong> is generally used when \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcasking for information.<\/strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Inquire<\/strong> has meant ‘a formal investigation.<\/strong>‘<\/p>\n
