India to launch Chandrayaan-I in 2007-08

India will launch its first moon mission Chandrayaan-I in 2007-2008 during which the world would see similar endeavours by China, Japan, US and Europe, opening new vistas for mutually beneficial cooperation, a senior Indian space scientist said on Thursday.

“Chandrayaan-I is a lunar polar orbiter designed for chemical, mineralogic and topographic mapping of the lunar surface. It will provide complete coverage of the moon from an altitude of about 100 km during its observation period of two years planned in 2008-2010,” said Bhandari, also President of International Lunar Exploration Working Group (ILEWG).

CEO Ramadorai is sixth most influential IT leader

In what can be termed as the growing prowess of the Indian IT sector, Tata Consultancy Services Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director S Ramadorai has been named as the sixth most influential person in the global enterprise IT sector.

Ramadorai was ranked a notch below Oracle’s Larry Ellison, but was positioned above IT biggies such as Alfred Chuang and Kevin Rolls by global IT magazine Computer Business Review .

“What led us to put him at number six is his firm’s winning of one of the UK’s largest ever business process outsourcing deals, a $848 million, 12-year-contract from UK’s Pearl Group. It is also the largest manpower transfer deal undertaken by any Indian IT company,” said CBR officials.

“His efforts have helped make TCS one of the largest global software and service companies, with almost 50,000 associates working in 53 countries and an annual revenue of $2 billion.

Under Ramadorai’s watch, TCS has more or less doubled its revenue every two years. TCS best reflects the profound influence that offshoring, and in particular Indian offshoring, has had on the enterprise IT sector,” they said.

UK-based CBR is considered as the largest IT enterprise magazine in the world.

How to counter telemarketers…

Do you hate getting phone calls from telemarketers as much as I do? Well, here are some ways to get your revenge!

1.After the telemarketer finishes speaking, ask him/her to marry you.

2. Tell the telemarketer you are busy at the moment, and ask him/her if he/she will give you his/her home phone number so you can call him/her back.

3. Ask them to repeat everything they say, several times.

4. Tell them it is dinner time, BUT ask if they would please hold. Put them on your speaker phone while you continue to eat at your leisure. Smack your food loudly and continue with your dinner conversation.

5. Tell them that all business goes through your agent, and hand the phone to your five year old child.

6. Tell them you are hard of hearing and that they need to speak up…louder…louder…louder!

7.Tell them to speak very slowly because you want to write every word down.

8.If they start out with, “How are you today?”, say “I’m so glad you asked, because no one these days seems to care, and I have all these problems…”

9.Catch them off guard by saying in a husky voice, “What are you wearing?”

10. Cry out in surprise, “Helen, is that you? I’ve been hoping you’d call! How is the family?” When they insist they are not Helen, tell them to stop joking. This works especially well if the telemarketer is really male.

Visual Radio launched in India

Mobile radio listeners have a new channel for entertainment through Visual Radio with four companies — Hutch, Radio Mirchi, Nokia and HP — on Tuesday announcing the rolling out of the service in India.

Visual radio allows listeners to tune in to local FM radio via the receiver on their Nokia devices while simultaneously receiving interactive information and graphics that are synchronised with radio broadcast through cellular network onto the screen of the handset.

Listeners can enjoy engaging and content, participate in radio station promotions, poll, contensts and interact with radio jockeys and special guests. Radio Mirchi becomes the first FM radio station to offer this interactive content.

Visual radio handsets were already available in the country with applications but Hutch is the first mobile service provider to offer this, Hutch marketing head Naveen Chopra said.

Nokia’s Visual Radio handsets are available within the price range of Rs 6,000-Rs 25,000 and and as per service charges, Chopra said in case of post-paid connections, there will be no rental for GPRS connections. Only usage charges, including the downloading charges, will apply. The normal charges for downloading are 10 paise per 10 kb of data.

A GPRS-enabled handset is a must for visual radio.
