Antoine Gombaud – Partly responsible for Probability theory

In 1654, Antoine Gombaud, Chevalier de Méré won quite a bit of money by betting that he could get at least one six in four rolls of a die. He reasoned the likelihood of a six was 1/6 on each throw. In four throws then, he believed his chances would be four times as good, for a probability of 4/6 or 2/3. This told de Mere that he would win two wagers for every one he would lose and virtually assure him of heavy profitrs. This was true for a time until he began to lose and eventually sent himself into bankrupty.

Due this his gambling problems, he is partly responsible for the development of probability theory. He sent letters to Blaise Pascal seeking reasons why his theory was not working. Pascal replied explaining his reasoning was incorrect and started to lead the presently-known development of probability.

Some say that by 2020 we’ll have used up half the world’s oil. Some say we already have.
Making the other half last longer will take innovation, conservation…and collaboration.

Wind
As a source of energy, wind power alone can’t do it all.
Because just to power a city like Paris would take 20,000 turbines.
We believe that meeting all our energy needs will take innovation,
conservation…and collaboration. Will you join us?

Timeline
It took us 125 years to use the first trillion barrels of oil.
We’ll use the next trillion in 30. So why should you care?

Cars
By 2030, the number of cars in the world will increase 50%.
So what does this have to do with you?

Two Barrels
The world consumes two barrels of oil for every barrel discovered.
So is this something you should be worried about?

Five Countries

So where do you live?

Chevron – Will You Join Us?

Chevron acknowledges “the era of easy oil is over” at this new company web site. They ask, “How can we make oil and gas supplies last longer as the search for other fuels continues?”

Chevron has also placed prominent ads in major magazines acknowledging peak oil is upon us and the solutions are unclear. They appear to be raising the right issues. This is a good start.

Their open blog discussion is found here.

(It also appears they have trademarked the phrase “Human Energy” for a new logo.)

Cisco ‘Data Center Day’ to be Held in Mumbai on May 9

Cisco Systems Inc. has announced its plan to host a multi-city event aimed at highlighting the relevance of network-based architecture for next-generation data centers. The event ‘Data Center Day’ will be held in Mumbai on May 9, 2007 at Hotel Hyatt Regency.

As part of this event, Cisco along with representatives from IBM and Emerson will highlight the importance of aligning the data center IT infrastructure to an organization’s business objectives.

Cisco said that according to Gartner, 70% or more of IT budgets are dedicated to maintaining existing data center infrastructure rather than funding strategic new projects. Perfect balance…

Ack:- Nikita Shah

God was in the process of creating the universe. And he was explaining his subordinates Look everything should be in balance. For example, after every 10 deer there should be a lion.

Look here my fellow angels, here is the country of the United States. I have blessed them with prosperity and money. But at the same time I have given them insecurity and tension….

And here is Africa. I have given them beautiful nature. But at the same time, I have given them climatic extremes….

And here is South America. I have given them lots of forests. But at the same time, I have given them lesser land so that they would have to cut off the forests…

So you see fellows, everything should be in balance.

One of the angels asked… “God, what is this extremely beautiful country here?”

God said……. “Ahah…that is the crown piece of all. “INDIA“, my most precious creation. It has understanding and friendly people. Sparkling streams, serene mountains. A culture which speaks of the great tradition that they live. Technologically brilliant and with a heart of gold…..

The angel was quite surprised: “But god you said everything should be n balance.” God replied — “Look at the neighbors I gave them.

Little Johnny

Ack:- Parth Barot

Little Johnny was busy doing his homework. As his mother approached she heard:

“One and one, the son-of-a-bitch is two.”
“Two and two, the son-of-a-bitch is four.”
“Three and three… ”

His mother interrupted, asking where he had learned this way of doing math. Little Johnny remarked that his teacher Ms. Margo taught him.

His mother was rather upset and told him to stop the homework. The next day she stormed into Little Johnny’s classroom and confronted Ms. Margo. Little Johnny’s mother told Ms. Margo about Little Johnny’s different way of doing math, and his claims that Ms. Margo taught it that way to the class.

The teacher was flabbergasted. She said that she couldn’t understand why Little Johnny had said what he did. Then suddenly, Ms Margo exclaimed, “Oh, I know, here in school we say, one and one, the sum-of-which is two.”

  3. When the user clicks Edit, they get the standard edit page, then when they click Save, they’re redirected to your component, which performs whatever actions you need.

Oracle Sues SAP for Corporate Theft

The war between Oracle and SAP is about to move beyond enterprise applications to the courtroom.

Oracle said that it has sued SAP “about corporate theft on a grand scale” seeking undisclosed damages. Oracle also argues that the theft formed the basis of SAP’s “Safe Passage” program, which is designed to entice Oracle customers to switch to SAP. SAP won’t comment until it has reviewed the complaint.

“We have just been notified of the lawsuit, and have taken note of the Oracle press release,” said an SAP spokesman. “We are still reviewing the matter, and, until we have a chance to study the allegations, SAP will follow is standard policy of not commenting on pending litigation.”
