Salesforce – Use Visualforce and Apex to Populate PDF Forms

Source : Salesforce Blog

Jesse Lorenz blogs following about how to use Visualforce and Apex to Populate PDF Forms

Does your company’s business process involve filling out PDF forms? Perhaps something like IRS Form W-4?

If so, you may be interested to learn that in addition to creating PDF documents from scratch, you can also use Visualforce and Apex to automate the process of populating third-party PDF forms. Ron Hess and I(Jesse Lorenz) recently collaborated on a project that does just that. It’s a straightforward process where all you really need to do is generate an XML file that follows Adobe’s XFDF format.

If you’re interested to learn more, we’ve documented an example that creates an XFDF file which is then used to populate a simple PDF form. Read the XFDF wiki article to learn more.

Team Picnic : SaaS day out at Mandwa beach

Ack:- Lav Chawla

The times when people are working hard day & night, the times when market is witnessing a sharp falls & the times when future seems so grim we, the SaaS group decided to go in for some relaxing mantra.

The kind of trip which we will bring in ease & new spirit within the team. There are people coming & going in every team, but it should not affect the spirit of ours & the motto of the organization.

So after thinking over many options, Mandwa beach was finally selected to go in for. The organizing team got into their thinking shoes & the entire action items were prepared.

On 13th December morning the trip started off. Though the journey was of 3.5 hours long but it did not seemed like as they were all cheering & chattering going along the way. There was no TM, no PL, no TL, and no GL; there was the team, the team SaaS.

After having a brief rest & snacks at the resort, the troops marched on to mean their business, to enjoy as a combat unit. We all went to the beach, played water sports, jumped in & out of the floating waves, along was going the photo shoots with the splash of life in the water.

Then we all had a delicious lunch, followed by some interesting games & truth or dare thus shelving some real self’s out.

Then as the time started to shut off all its light, we packed off all our rejuvenated memories to go back to where it all started. And then even while going back after the entire day’s stretched out at the beach, it couldn’t stop us from the last drops of entertainment & we carried on with drum shards & antakshri.

It marked off the emergence of the team as a whole in every bit of its story, right from the coordination team planning out the nitty – gritties of the trip, to the chit chats, to the games & a team cheering to end with.

They say you can never make a family out of a team, they say you can never be personal but only professionals. They may be true, but exceptions & possibilities of life are boundless. And this just may be one of them.

GMail : Fast PDF viewing right in your browser

When I get sent a PDF, sometimes I just want to view it — I don’t always need to download and save it right then. So starting today, you’ll see a new “View” link next to PDF attachments you get in Gmail:

Clicking “View” quickly opens the PDF inside your browser, complete with the graphics and formatting you expect to see in a PDF. You may have seen this feature before, in Google Docs. It’s the way that we did uploading and viewing of PDFs online. Here’s a screen shot:

If you want, you can still view in plain HTML from a link at the top of the new viewer. And if you want to download, save, and view your PDFs later while offline using client software, you can still do that by hitting the “Download” link.

Disconnect handsets that do not have an IMEI number

Come January 6 and as many as 25 million mobile phones could be disconnected by the telecom operators.

Concerned about the terrorist attacks in the recent past, the department of telecom (DoT) has asked service providers to disconnect handsets that do not have an international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) number.

IMEI is a unique 15 digit code that identifies a mobile. It prevents the use of stolen handsets for making calls and allows lawful interception to prove the use of a particular device.

The IMEI number appears on the operator’s network whenever a call is made. DoT has asked the service providers to equip networks with Equipment Identity Register (EIR) to check whether calls are made from genuine handsets.

“In the interest of national security, all cellular mobile service providers in unified access service licences (UASL) are hereby directed to make provisions for EIR so that calls without IMEI or with IMEI consisting of all zeroes are not processed or rejected,” DoT said in a letter to operators on October 6.

“If switches do not have such a facility, the necessary hardware and software should be put in place within three months of the issue date of this letter and compliance reported,” it added.

Indian Cellular Association (ICA), the industry body for handset makers, believes that illegal IMEI handsets are being used as there is no validation of IMEI numbers in mobiles entering the country either through sea or air.

Moreover, there is no central mechanism to prohibit the use of stolen phones. The bulk of grey market phones, predominantly originating from China, do not have genuine IMEI numbers. ICA estimates around 25 million such handsets in the country.

However, some operators ET spoke to expressed their inability to meet the DoT deadline due to technical reasons. “What the DoT is trying to do is to block all calls with zeroes as IMEI numbers or from blacklisted numbers. That adds an extra load on networks. There are so many combinations of non-genuine IMEI numbers that it is extremely difficult to block them. Network upgradation is required to block all such calls and not all our multiple equipment vendors are equipped to do it,” a senior official told ET.

He further explained that interrogating all calls would delay call set-up time. “Switches will interrogate most of the time and may not be able to process any calls,” he added.

Another top official at a telecom firm said the move will affect customers who unknowingly bought mobiles without IMEI or whose numbers have been duplicated by others. “The duplicate devices currently being used will not last beyond two-three years. The way out is to check imports to stop entry of handsets without genuine IMEI into India,” he added.

As long as u LOVE me(Lyrics n Video) – Back Street Boys

As Long as she loves me, I hate to see anything else about her !! As her love for me is my world and i am least worried about things outside world

Lyrics
Although loneliness has always been a friend of mine
I’m leaving my life in your hands
People say I’m crazy and that I am blind
Risking it all in a glance
How you got me blind is still a mystery
I can’t get you out of my head
Don’t care what is written in you history
As long as you’re here with me

I don’t care who you are
Where you’re from
What you did
As long as you love me
Who you are
Where you’re from
Don’t care what you did
As long as you love me

Every little thing
That you have said and done
Feels like it’s deep within me
Doesn’t really matter
If you’re on the run
It seems like we’re meant to be

I’ve tried to hide it so that no one knows
But I guess it shows
When you look in to my eyes
What you did and where you’re comin from
I don’t care, as long as you love me, baby.

SlideShare Presents Your Newest Social App: PowerPoint

SlideShareSlideShare is the most popular social site for presentations on the Web. Microsoft PowerPoint – despite its detractors – remains the most popular presentation software around. What if those two had the power to work together? What if sharing new PowerPoint presentations was as easy as clicking a button?

Now, it can be. Today, SlideShare is introducing the “SlideShare Ribbon” an add-in that makes the sharing and social features of SlideShare accessible without even leaving PowerPoint.

imgSlideShareRibbon.jpg

Using the SlideShare Ribbon, users gain the ability to share presentations from within PowerPoint, update existing presentations with new content, search existing SlideShare presentations for examples, download SlideShare content for remixing, and view presentations from contacts and groups. User can also check their SlideShare statistics from within PowerPoint.

In short, SlideShare makes PowerPoint social.

That’s what makes this release so interesting. SlideShare has taken the opportunity to move beyond browser development – the traditional home of social features – to work on a different piece of desktop software. And in PowerPoint, SlideShare has chosen an app that, by and large, has not been seen as a venue for social behavior, at all.

The idea of using PowerPoint to access Web resources isn’t earth shattering. Microsoft has provided the ability to dynamically download PowerPoint clip art for quite some time. But that has always been within the realm of delivering Microsoft content to the user. This is the first time that those types of Web-based interactions have taken on more of a social-networking context – by delivering and sharing content from a variety of users. And that suddenly casts all desktop software in a new light – no matter how “unsocial” a particular app may seem.

No doubt this is just the first of many such add-ins that will imbue our most used applications with social features. And that will make even the most tedious of applications increasingly valuable to us.

To install the SlideShare Ribbon, you’ll need to PowerPoint 2007, Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

HOW WE MISS OUT SOMETHING CALLED “LIFE”

Ack :- Amit Mittal

THIS IS HOW WE MISS OUT SOMETHING CALLED “LIFE”

A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and the boy was the gem of their eyes. When the boy was around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine bottle open. He was late for office so he asked his wife to cap the bottle and keep it in the cupboard. His wife, preoccupied in the kitchen totally forgot the matter. The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to the bottle fascinated by its color and drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small dosages. When the child collapsed the mother hurried him to the hospital, where he died. The mother was stunned. She was terrified how to face her husband. When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he looked at his wife and uttered just five words.

QUESTIONS :
1. What were the five words ?
2. What is the implication of this story?

ANSWER :
The husband just said “I am with you Darling
The husband’s totally unexpected reaction is a proactive behavior. The child is dead. He can never be brought back to life. There is no point in finding fault with the mother. Besides, if only he had taken time to keep the bottle away, this would not have happened.. No one is to be blamed. She had also lost her only child. What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband. That is what he gave her.If everyone can look at life with this kind of perspective, there would be much fewer problems in the world.
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.
Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears. And you will find things are
actually not as difficult as you think.

MORAL OF THE STORY:
This story is really worth reading. ….. Sometimes we spend time in asking who is responsible or whom to blame, whether in a relationship,in a job or with the people we know. By this way we miss out something called L.I.F.E

What you should do if you lose your job

Across sectors there are fears of cost cutting and consolidation. “Most people never predict a job loss,” continues Aruna Sampat of HR consultancy firm Career Catalysts, “and are caught off guard when they get laid off.”

Sampat cuts the jargon and tells you what you should do if you lose your job.

1. Don’t panic

A job loss has nothing to do with performance, or your ability. It’s more about redundancy of your role in the company. Once this understanding seeps in, you will you be able to concentrate on finding a new job.

2. Make a list

Update your resume and follow a daily schedule. Now that you have time on hand, set aside at least five to six hours a day on job hunting – including research, calls, interviews etc. Make a list of the people and companies which can help you. Be specific on how they can help you.

3. Get aggressive

Make sure that you have your detailed resume up on every job portal there is. Some portals you can put your resume are jobstreet.com, monster.com, naukri.com, yellowjobs.com, timesjobs.com, shine.com etc.

4. Talk to other pros

Focus on what kind of job you want. Assess market situation and make your plan. If a role is interesting but the company is not so much a brand name, are you willing for a lateral move, or would you like to take a cut in salary for a brand? Think through. Talking to senior professionals may help to give you a perspective

5. Freelance

Do not hesitate to take up freelance assignments. Look at it this way. You will keep your skills up to date and it will bring home a few bucks. In the meanwhile keep hunting for a job.

6. Be transparent

Most people don’t want to mention they have been laid off. “But hiding it will only complicate things,” continues Sampat, “being laid off is not a taboo anymore amongst companies. They will hire you for your skills.” So be transparent in your next job interview and tell them why you were laid off.

7. No blame-game

Blaming the company or your luck during an interview is a strict no-no. Companies like hiring people with a positive outlook. After all, this can happen to any company.

8. Reference friendly

Make sure that you have all your references ready when you go for interviews and do not hesitate to give them if asked. Inform your reference in advance so that they are not caught unaware and will able to contribute in getting you a job.

9. Network

You have the time to go out, so make use of it. Network like crazy. Nothing has more impact than a meeting. Also make sure you follow up with your contacts so that they think of you the first time an opportunity springs up.

10. Stay healthy

Last but not the least you have to stay fit and keep healthy. Only this will keep you motivated and mentally fit.

“Getting a new job can take time – from a week to several months,” continues Sampat, “but the real test is to stay put in these times and focus on sailing through this crisis.”
