TCS Eyes Mega Acquisitions

Over the last five years, heavyweights in the Indian IT industry have spoken of big ticket acquisitions. But besides a few small and medium deals, nothing of consequence has come through so far.

The wait may, however, be over. Sources close to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) told TOI that it was looking to buy a UK-based company, Vertex, in the range of $800 million-$1 billion. If the deal comes through, it could be the largest ever by an Indian business house.

Vertex is the outsourcing division of United Utilities, a company listed on both the London and New York stock exchanges

Indian programmer blamed for measles outbreak in Boston

An Indian software programmer is at the centre of a Robin Cook novel-like scenario in Boston, where a measles outbreak has led to authorities distributing 23,000 doses of vaccine costing $400,000 (Rs1.8 crore) across the city.

They have also ordered hundreds of people working in three buildings, including the city’s tallest skyscraper where the programmer went to work, to stay home until they can prove they are not susceptible to the disease.

The programmer, whose name has not been made public, flew in from India on April 26, and began showing symptoms of measles —cough, fever and rash — on May 5. The disease soon spread to six more persons in the same building.

Finally a Football World Cup song in Hindi by UK NRIs

Britons of Indian origin have composed a lilting song in Hindi in support of David Beckham and the England football team — egging the players on to bring the World Cup home.

Radio presenter Sunny Kapoor hit upon the idea during his show on Kismat Radio, a popular radio station for South Asians here.

Khelo khelo josh me khelo,
Germany se World Cup lelo.
World Cup hamaraa hai,
Beckham ka sahara ha

Reports say that over 100 songs have been composed recently in support of the England team. This is the first song to be composed in Hindi or any Asian language, and is already a hit with listeners on Kismat Radio.
