It’s advantage Bharti in deal with Wal-Mart

Commercial ingenuity will find a way around the most carefully constructed official restrictions. On the face of it, this would seem to be a fair assessment of Wal-Mart’s proposed entry into India partnering Bharti.

That would be an error. A more accurate conclusion would be that policy seeks to tilt the playing field in favour of Indian retail players rather than to keep foreign Big Retail out.

What is IP television?

Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is digital television delivered on your television (and not PC) through high speed internet (broadband) connection. In this service, channels are encoded in IP format and delivered to the TV through a set top box. IPTV service also includes video on demand, which is similar to watching video CDs/DVDs using a VCD/DVD player.

Samsung Develops Super Thin Phone Screen

Samsung Electronics says that it has developed the thinnest reported LCD panel, one no thicker than a credit card at 0.82mm, which is 0.07mm thinner than the panel previously reported to be the world’s slimmest. The company also announced that it has developed a new mobile technology, which it is calling, “i-Lens“, for integrating the entire panel assembly, including a protective layer, into a single, thinner module that is more shock-resistant and easier to read than conventional panels.

Executive Vice President Yun Jin-hyuk, in charge of the Mobile Display Team within the Samsung Electronics LCD Business division, said, “Samsung’s R&D initiatives, including LCD module thickness reduction and reinforced shock resistance, will enable our customers to develop truly differentiated and more reliable, ultra-thin mobile products.”

TCS to Implement 3G Solution in Macau

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), an IT services and consulting firm, has won a USD 8 million contract to implement a solution in Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau S.A.R.L. (CTM), Macau’s only full telecom service provider.

According to the company, the new contract breaks new ground in several areas:

  • First, this is the first end-to-end contract with a major telecommunications company in one of Asia’s fastest growing markets. The contract will involve TCS playing a key role in integrating new hardware and software from scratch.
  • Second, this is the first time TCS has been able to install a new solution in place, decommissioning the legacy IT infrastructure, within a short time frame of nine months. The system is expected to go-live on 28th February 2007.
  • This latest billing solution addresses CTM’s different convergence needs, such as prepaid/postpaid, fixed/mobile, and data/voice/messaging, and enables effective management of all aspects of the customer’s needs. It will pave the way for CTM to eventually deliver 3G mobile services.

    A nice, calm and respectable lady went into the pharmacy, right up to the pharmacist, looked straight into his eyes, and said, “I would like to buy some cyanide.”

    The pharmacist asked, “Why in the world do you need cyanide?”
    The lady replied, “I need it to poison my husband.”
