Yahoo Inc is shutting down Yahoo Photos, its first-generation photo storage site, and asking users to move instead to Yahoo’s Web 2.0 photo sharing site, Flickr, a Yahoo official said on Thursday.
In June, tens of milllions of registered users of Yahoo Photos will be notified of various options including upgrading to Yahoo’s Flickr service or various outside-photo storage sites, according to Flickr co-founder Stewart Butterfield.
Yahoo also will offer consumers the option of loading their photos on competing sites when users are notified next month.

The primary objective of the National Do Not Call Registry (NDNC Registry) is to curb Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC). More and more camera manufacturers are choosing to label their digital cameras with the total (optical x digital) zoom. This is an unfortunate development and only serves to confuse consumers.
Most people who have used a 35mm camera or an APS camera are aware of only optical zoom. Optical zoom uses the optics (lens) of the camera to bring the subject closer. Digital zoom is an invention of digital video cameras. It is not uncommon to see digital videocams with 300x digital zoom.
For our purpose, digital zoom is not really zoom, in the strictest definition of the term. What digital zoom does is enlarge a portion of the image, thus ‘simulating’ optical zoom. In other words, the camera crops a portion of the image and then enlarges it back to size. In so doing, you lose image quality. If you’ve been regularly using digital zoom and wondered why your pictures did not look that great, now you know.
Is digital zoom therefore all bad? No, not at all. It’s a feature that you might want in your digital camera (in fact, all digital cameras include some digital zoom, so you can’t really avoid it), especially if you don’t care about using (or don’t know how to use) an image editing software. So, as far as digital zoom is concerned, you can do it in camera or you can do it afterwards in an image editing software. Any cropping and enlarging can be done in an image editing software, such as Photoshop.
So, when a digital camera is advertised with 3x digital zoom, no big deal. You can achieve the same 3x (and in fact as much as you want) digital zoom effect in an image editing software. The advantage of doing it later is that you can then decide exactly which portion to crop and how much to enlarge (3x, 4x, …). If you do it in camera, image quality is irreversibly lost.

Few days ago Startup Dunia talked about a new website coming out of the Reliance hive. The website is called Chintee.com. Chintee (means Ant).
The DNS servers are still pointing to zapak.com and the site used to redirect to BigAdda, which was just launched last week (Reliance social netowkring site). If you look at the registrant information, it is on Nikhil Soman’s name. Organization field is empty. I got this information from who.is query.
The site now provides options to vote for your best logo for the page. This is similar to what they did for BigAdda.com.There are speculations about the site whether its a search engine or something else. Well as the name refers Chintee (an Ant) crawls to places, may be this is a web site crawler.
But the time will tell whats the website about. Till then you can just go to site and vote for your best logo. I voted for Option 2. Thats the picture which comes to my mind when I think of a chintee.
Check it out. www.chintee.com

The powerful “Cell” microprocessor that fuels Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 3 video game console will be available in IBM mainframe computers so those high-performance machines can run complex online games and virtual worlds.
Jointly developed by IBM, Sony and Toshiba Corp., Cell is touted as a “supercomputer on a chip” because of its design, which includes one central processing unit helped by eight additional processors working on specific tasks.
Because of that unusual architecture, Cell’s use outside of PlayStations has been limited to specialized hardware for graphics-intensive functions such as military or medical applications.
Mainframes are big computers commonly used for transaction processing and other centralized tasks.
Despite their old-fashioned reputation, IBM’s mainframe sales have been on an upswing. IBM has encouraged customers to perform a wider variety of computing functions on them since mainframes can run multiple processors and operating systems at once.
Adding Cell chips to mainframes to make the machines into hubs for online gaming and simulations could bolster that strategy, analysts said.
“It opens up some new potential frontiers,” said Charles King of Pund-IT Research.
Blackle is nothing but a black version of google. I appreciate the concept Ontkush came up with.
“A few months ago, TreeHugger Mark Ontkush wrote a post on his blog EcoIron titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year. The post lays out the following train of thought. “An all white web page uses about 74 watts to display, while an all black page uses only 59 watts.” Google, which has a white background and gets about “200 million queries a day” could reduce global energy use by 750 Megawatt-hours a year by simply changing the color of its homepage to black. In response to this post a black version of Google emerged called Blackle.com.
According to Blackle’s homepage at publication time, 4,408.917 Watt hours have been saved by. Nice ideas. But how does the search measure up? Very well indeed. Give it a whirl yourself and start saving energy one search at a time. :: Blackle.com
So here’s your site: http://www.blackle.com/
